Pin couplings
Design of rubber couplings Design and properties of pin couplings
Pin couplings consist of two flanges that are joined together. On one flange, bolts are evenly distributed in a circle. The second flange has matching recesses into which the bolts engage. Rubber elements are attached to the bolts, which are subject to normal wear and therefore need to be replaced at regular intervals.
The torque is transmitted via the pins, with the rubber elements serving to dampen the uneven transmission of force. Pin couplings can be inserted axially, which makes assembly and disassembly much easier. It has a vibration-damping effect and can be used at temperatures between -25 degrees and +100 degrees Celsius. The shaft diameters are normally between 10 mm and 450 mm, whereby the spring characteristic curve is progressive.
The angular offset is between 0.4 degrees and 2 degrees, the backlash is low. Pin clutches are puncture-proof, the torques are between 40 Nm and 1000 kNm. Depending on the size of the Coupling, the speeds are between 5000 and 500 per minute. Pin clutches are available in various models and sizes with a maximum diameter of 104 cm.
Areas of application for pin couplings
Pin couplings are used in a wide variety of areas in mechanical engineering. Conventional couplings with pins are used in forestry and agriculture, for example. Due to its properties, the pin coupling offers a very safe transmission of torque. Vibrations and shocks are effectively damped. Couplings of this type are also frequently used in blowers and rotors. They are ideal for installation in steelworks, hydroelectric power stations or concrete plants.
What materials are used for pin couplings?
Due to their shape and the materials used, pin clutches are very suitable for dynamic loads. The following materials, for example, are used for large pin clutches that have to withstand a high level of wear and must not deform even in the event of strong impacts:
The grain is made of cast iron and spheroidal graphite.
The bolts are made of steel and can be replaced during maintenance on many models.
The elastic elements are attached and are made of polyurethane, for example. They are also interchangeable and have very high impact resilience.
Well-known manufacturers and models
FLENDER: Flender GmbH is an international manufacturer of drive systems and offers both universal and customized gearboxes and / or couplings. With the RUPEX pin coupling, FLENDER has a damping and fail-safe pin coupling in its portfolio that is designed in particular for medium to high torques. The RUPEX Coupling is highly valued for its reliable torque transmission, even under harsh operating conditions.
REICHThe company REICH, which is based in Bochum, offers the “REIBO” coupling, among others. This coupling is a torsionally flexible pin coupling and compensates for axial as well as radial and angular shaft misalignments. Vibrations and shocks are reliably absorbed by bolts and buffer elements.
