Identifying the Coupling – finding the right spare part

Focus: Identify CENTA Coupling

Coupling is a detachable connection between the engine and transmission. Machines can only be set in motion through the frictional connection.

It is therefore important that the Coupling is fully functional. You should therefore pay increased attention to the Coupling, as individual components are subject to natural wear. Replacing wearing parts can restore the full functionality of the Coupling.

This means that a complete clutch replacement is not always necessary. However, when replacing wearing parts, always make sure that the spare parts are compatible, which is why the Coupling must be identified before replacing wearing parts (Coupling identification). This is the only way to ensure that the spare parts are compatible with the Coupling.

In this blog post, we focus on the following topics:

Areas of responsibility: What should a Coupling do? Does the Coupling no longer perform all tasks reliably? Consider replacing wearing parts.

Can a Coupling be tested for functionality? How can you determine whether wear parts need to be replaced?

How can CENTA couplings be distinguished from other couplings (CENTA coupling identification)? In addition to our individual services, we have been distributing CENTA/Rexnord Couplings for many years. Recently, however, you will also find other high-performance couplings from the manufacturers FLENDER, KTR, REICH and VULKAN in our product portfolio. In this article, we want to go into detail about CENTA’s couplings and clarify how you can differentiate them from other manufacturers. We will also look at the question of which parts in the coupling system of CENTA couplings can be defective and need to be replaced.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE COUPLING?

The Coupling performs tasks that are essential for smooth operation. If operation is no longer possible in this form, you may need to have wearing parts replaced.

Transmission of the torque

The torque determines the force that acts on an application. This torque is adapted to the operating situation at all times. Without the transmitted torque, no force can be transmitted and the machine would come to a standstill.

Damping of torsional vibrations

Torsional vibrations are often caused by torsional irregularities in the drive. These torsional vibrations must be effectively damped by the Coupling. Non-uniformity can otherwise lead to component failure or undesirable vibrations.

Protection against overload

The Coupling also protects against unwanted high torques. For this purpose, the frictional connection is canceled when the permissible torque is exceeded

HOW CAN YOU TEST WHETHER THE COUPLING IS STILL GOOD?

The Coupling is a very robust and hard-wearing structure in itself, so it does not need to be checked regularly for proper function. If you have the feeling that the Coupling is no longer fully performing its tasks, it is advisable to have it inspected by a specialist.

IDENTIFYING CENTA COUPLINGS

Identifying Couplings: How can CENTA Couplings be distinguished from other manufacturers?

CENTA couplings differ from other couplings in terms of color, structure and other features (lettering, names or labels).

Follow our videos on Youtube. Our upcoming publications include assistance for the identification of CENTA Couplings. You can also look forward to product catalogs containing all PMP services and additional interesting information.

To shorten the waiting time, you can obtain current product catalogs from the individual manufacturers from us.

A personal consultation is also possible at any time – now, but of course also in the future.

Replacing wearing parts

Replacing wear parts at regular intervals is an absolute must to ensure that the Coupling can perform all the tasks mentioned to the full. Replacing wear parts may also be necessary in the event of acute problems.

Rubber element

Rubber elements are made of natural rubber or silicone. They ensure the correct power transmission, precise torque transmission and dampen unwanted vibrations. You can find out which Couplings contain rubber elements here.

Elastic element

CENTA Couplings without rubber element are always equipped with elastic elements. Elastic elements are made of hard plastic.

YouTube Video: here you can find more information about the CENTAFLEX-A Coupling from CENTA/Rexnord.

Rubber element and elastic element – automatic wear

Please note that both rubber and elastic elements automatically wear out over time due to the elastomers incorporated. Rubber and elastic elements can therefore also wear out without having been used for even a minute. We at PMP therefore strongly advise you to always check the date of manufacture of an element.

Hubs and flanges

Other wearing parts of Couplings are also hubs and flanges. However, the wear on these two components is rather low as they are made of steel.

SPARE PARTS SUPPLY

At PMP, we are able to supply you with coupling parts and elements from the manufacturers CENTA/Rexnord, FLENDER, KTR, REICH and VULKAN as quickly and flexibly as possible (spare parts supply). We are of course also happy to assist you in selecting and determining the right spare part.
