How long does a Coupling last?
How long does a Coupling actually last? And what influences the service life of the Coupling? We will now explore these questions in this article. As an elementary part of the drive, the Coupling is subject to particularly high loads. But how long does a clutch actually last? And how can you extend the service life of a machine’s Coupling?
SERVICE LIFE OF A COUPLING
Coupling components are now very durable. Nowadays, materials have a high coefficient of friction and allow for reduced wear, but Couplings still wear out. Due to operational wear, the service life of the Coupling can end sooner than that of the actual machine. It is therefore not possible to predict the service life of a Coupling. Too many components are involved for this.
The service life of the Coupling can be extended by regular maintenance or overhaul of the Coupling. You can find out which maintenance work we at PMP can carry out for you here. Maintenance at regular intervals is sufficient to protect the machine from major damage.
CAUSES OF HIGH WEAR
Wear always occurs when the actual condition deviates from the target condition. Maintenance or replacement of components must then be carried out.
Irregular wear and tear
A laser-assisted alignment check ensures that the drivetrain is correctly positioned again. This counteracts irregular wear and tear.
Wear and tear of wearing parts
Rubber and elastic elements
Do not wait until the bitter end to replace wearing parts. The damage can then be greater than if the wearing parts are replaced in good time. Coupling wear parts can be rubber and elastic elements.
Cardan shaft
The cardan shaft is not a direct part of the Coupling. However, it is one of the wear elements that should be given special attention. the cardan shaft (also known as the universal joint) is part of the drive. It transmits the torque via a bent shaft train. As it has to transmit the entire power of the engine, it is exposed to particular stresses. Defects are therefore not uncommon. Repairs should always be carried out by a specialist, as otherwise the driving safety of the vehicle can no longer be guaranteed.
Preparation
A professional reconditioning or overhaul of the Coupling affects the entire Coupling. At PMP, we recondition your Coupling so that it is as good as new afterwards. Reconditioning is generally cheaper than purchasing a new Coupling, but the price depends on the damage in question.
COUPLING MAINTENANCE
What is preventive maintenance?
Coupling maintenance includes all technical and administrative measures that serve to ensure the functional condition of the coupling. The preservation and restoration of the Coupling is ensured by inspection, maintenance and reconditioning.
COUPLING MAINTENANCE OR RECONDITIONING - OUR SERVICE FOR YOU
At PMP, we extend the service life of your Coupling. In doing so, we focus precisely on the needs of your Coupling. We also discuss the best time to inspect, maintain or overhaul your Coupling. If possible, maintenance is carried out when the machines are used less. The off-season in your industry is ideal for this.
Take advantage of our service. We will be happy to advise you.
