El cojinete axial debe su nombre a que s\u00f3lo pueden transmitirse fuerzas de compresi\u00f3n entre las dos piezas del cojinete liso. A diferencia de un cojinete radial, el \u00e1ngulo de contacto de un cojinete axial aumenta a 90 grados, lo que significa que s\u00f3lo se generan cargas axiales, es decir, fuerzas en la direcci\u00f3n del eje o \u00e1rbol.
